It
is 1942 .... prepare for war!
The new Battlefield
1942 game from Electronic
Arts had been getting some decent gameplay over the web by
some of the RoWeb regulars, and so we thought we'd give it a
LAN bashing. The game certainly dominated the gameplay
and everyone was well hooked by the end of the weekend.
The evil children of the Red Baron: Orcas's and Chief's flying
skilz were more than a minor irritation to the Allies,
destroying tanks far too easily and the aircraft carrier was
repeatedly sunk! Although everyone seemed to find new
tactics to get their just revenge. We'll be seeing much
more of this game at future LANs for sure.
Also at the LAN was the official
multiplayer demo of UBI Soft's Rainbow6 :Raven Shield.
Again we had found another excellent game replacing
counter-strike as the team shoot-em-up for the LAN.
Socially it was cool to get together with cheap drinks, a
curry dinner and generally have a party. There's more
comment on the party and hopefully some pictures in the forums
. RoWeb thanks to Chief for the server support (bring a
flashlight next time - anti 'walking to shop in horrible
countryside place with too few street lights and wet potholes
in ground etc etc) .
Also thanks to Dogmeat for his excellent console and
DVD support, and to those who stayed behind to help the crew
clear up. Good to hear in the
forums everyone had a good time see you all at the next one
due in late Jan - early Feb 2003.
p.s. good luck with the new
addition to the family digital!

| BangaLAN - 2-4 Nov 2001
Uffington near Swindon, Wiltshire, UK |
|
Lookie,
lookie who's got hookie!
Before setting sail on the Carribean,
the swashbuckling RoWeb Crew heartily invited you to
a festival of food and froliks to celebrate the just burning
of the traitor Guy Fawkes!!
At the LAN players were treated to a free breakfast of bacon
and sausage butties, and a few fireworks were fired
into the sky!
After a few modifications to the windows the venue
proved pretty cool with zero power problems and a cool pub
nearby. Certainly for £15 we think everyone got a good deal
with low price, cheap booze, fireworks and mega fun. I
hope Comet and DocFear have recovered from their gymnastic
displays and
that we see you all at the next one

| TechLAN 7-9

Again
around 100 players turned up and fun was had by all. The BB
gun battle outside being something 4 those with body armour
only!!
With a 2GHz Pentium 4 on display for people to play games
on, and 10 other mega-spec Pentiums for public use even the
spectators got a go at the art of fragging!! Op Flashpoint
was given a major trial at Multiplayer gameplay and came through
with flying colours .. just wish the staf fOp Flash Apache
would not get shot down so often, especially with a crew on
board
The Review is coming soon!

| Terrorist
LAN 27 - 29 July in Swindon Town, Wiltshire, England |
|
We had approx 100 players and staff
and managed to recapture more of the old RoWeb atmosphere
of party meets gamers
The new Excaliber Beta of Tourney management went well and
the large number of staff worked real hard (kudos!!) to make
sure everyone had a cool, hassle free time.
The event had some real
serious Clans in attendance and things sure got preeety intence
during the quarter final but in the end we had an awesome
final watched by everyone on the big screen between [VETS]
(A Team) and [bleh] (The Clan who has yet to decide
on a name!).

| RoWeb- The Gathering -
8 June 2001 |
Moving to a new venue at
Swindon Town FC conference centre The
Gathering proved to be the biggest RoWeb yet, getting pretty
much smack on our maximum attendance limit of 100 people.
The event had 3 official tournies leading to a final knockout
to decide who would be the one to win the full sized replica
of the katana sword used by Connor McCleod in the film 'The
Highlander'. The One was Scope of Clan
Veterans - kudos to him, his impressive Rally Master skilz sure
helped !
The event was a huge success and saw a major list of Clans in
attendance, many having their own banners marking the clan gatherings.
Clan Vetrerans dominated the CS and there was also large attendance
from the Authorative RoWeb Shifty Eyed gang [ARSE] ,
Ze Clan, UC_UK, DoA, ULLA and several more. There was also the
usual large contingent of people new to muliplayer/ online gaming
who had the extra benefit of being able to try out the ten 1.7
GHz Intel P4's with their 21" TFT screens at the event.
Thanks also to Planet LAN for the 46" Plasma screen we
plugged into one of the P4's
Also the main game server was one of the first Dual P4 machines
in the country, all thanks to our friends at Intel
!!

| The
Easter RoWeb 27 - 30 March
2001 |
The Easter party took place in Salisbury,
Wiltshire and was designed to celebrate the revival of BarrysWorld
after it suffered financial ruin.
Over 65 players made it to the Easter Party providing a good alternative
to the i7. With loads of space, 20GB backbone network, sleeping
rooms, 42" plasma screens, curry meal and bar in the same
gaming room it was not to be missed.
